Wikedia's definition of "Scrapbooking is a method of preserving, presenting, arranging personal and family history in the form of a book, box, card. Typical memorabilia include photographs, printed media, and artwork. Scrapbook albums are often decorated and frequently contain extensive journaling. Scrapbooking started in the United Kingdom in the nineteenth century, but is now primarily a United States phenomenon."
Scrapbooking has been dated back to the 15th century, they were called commonplace books, popular in England. There's a great article at scrapbook.com on the history of scrapbooking www.scrapbook.com/articles/history-of-scrapbooking
I,myself did not start scrapbooking until 2005. I remember being in Michaels and looking at the scrapbooking supplies saying to myself, this could be an expensive hobby but I forged ahead and shopped for the necessities to make my first two scrapbooks. When my daughter was in the 6th grade, she had a project to do on family history, we used info from my mom's side(someone had actually had a family history done) and pics and cute stories, she got an A on the project. So i wanted to create a scrapbook for her and then one for me. I need for her to send me pics of that scrapbook. Checkout the slideshow of some of the pages of my first scrapbook. Since that first one i've created over 75 scrapbooks. When I finish one or add to one i have my husband and son look at it, its a family thing and when my daughter visits, I make her sit and look at the ones she hasn't seen yet. I want to say I've gotten better at it and more creative. So my questions are how long have you been scrapbooking? Below is one of the first scrapbooks I did. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks and keep on "scrappin"
Since that first retreat I’ve started my online craft store, created the website, researched and researched about blogging and there’s all the online and social media marketing to deal with and the training, emails and webinars. Like many creative business owners, I spend a great deal of time tending to my website, Esty listings, Facebook business page, then there’s family, the house and errands and all my to do lists, projects, training are very overwhelming. So what can I do about this, that craft retreat I took did in Jan was great, I looked up Craft retreats in Idaho and low and behold there was one held at Hampton Inn in Idaho Falls but unlike last time I did ask a couple of friends to sign up with me but they couldn’t so once again out of my comfort zone I went alone. So glad that I did, with all the business, marketing and training it was hard for me to be creative. At this Retreat, which was called Ruby Bucket retreat, I made about 15 pairs of earrings, 5 necklaces and finished a Winnie the Pooh Tulle Wreath. Stephanie and Ester ran the show and they were amazing and very creative and funny. When you check in they gave you this bracelet that each year you had a charm on it, so pretty and there were door prizes and a raffle for a beautiful handmade quilt and table runner, and also there was a boutique with handmade items. It was great and well worth the money I spent. I’m so glad that both times I decided to go to the craft retreats alone or with friends, if the opportunity arises go forth and have fun.
The Idea of escaping family life by signing up for a Craft Retreat excites me and more and more crafters every year. These crafters usually are a click of friends that have been going to the same craft retreat as a group for years. But what if you love to craft but have no friends that can get away or have the funds to do so, do you go by yourself or say to yourself I’ll stay home this time and just maybe I’ll find friends or family that would go with me the next time, knowing deep down that is a fantasy. Last Jan I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and sign up for a Craft Retreat at Camp Perkins.
