Some days you wake up with big energy and big plans.
And some days? Youre just trying to get through the day without feeling like youre carrying the whole world on your shoulders.
If today is one of those heavier days, I want you to hear this: you don't have to fix everything today. You don't have to have it all figured out. You don't have to be on for everyone.
Youre allowed to take today one tiny step at a time.
This post is for the days when you need encouragement that feels realnot cheesy. Just gentle reminders and small actions that can make today feel a little lighter.
1) Start with one next right thing
When life feels overwhelming, our brains try to solve everything at once.
Thats when we freeze.
Instead, ask yourself:
· What is the next right thing I can do?
Not the next ten things. Not the whole plan. Just the next right thing.
Examples:
· Drink a glass of water
· Take a shower
· Answer one email
· Start one load of laundry
· Make one phone call
· Step outside for 2 minutes
Small steps build momentum.
2) Give yourself permission to be a human
You are not a machine.
Youre allowed to:
· feel tired
· need a break
· change your mind
· rest without earning it
If youre waiting until you feel worthy of rest, youre going to stay exhausted.
Rest is not a reward. Its a requirement.
3) Do one thing that makes you feel cared for
This doesnt have to be expensive or time-consuming.
Pick one:
· Put on lotion and actually notice the scent
· Make your favorite drink (coffee, tea, flavored water)
· Light a candle
· Put on comfy clothes
· Play one song that lifts your mood
· Sit in your car for 5 minutes in quiet
The goal is to send yourself this message: I matter.
4) Talk to yourself like you would talk to your best friend
If your best friend texted you and said:
Im struggling. Im behind. Im not doing enough.
You wouldnt say:
Yeah, youre failing. Try harder.
Youd say something like:
· Im proud of you for showing up.
· Youre doing the best you can.
· Lets take it one step at a time.
Try saying (out loud if you can):
· Im allowed to go slow.
· Im still making progress.
· Im not behindIm human.
5) Make a tiny win list
When you feel discouraged, your brain forgets everything youve done.
So lets remind it.
Write down 5 tiny wins from the last week:
· I got out of bed on a hard day
· I showed up for someone
· I made a healthy choice
· I finished something Ive been avoiding
· I asked for help
None of these are small. They are proof of strength.
6) If youre overwhelmed, shrink the time
Sometimes just do it feels impossible.
So shrink it.
Try:
· 2 minutes of tidying
· 5 minutes of stretching
· 10 minutes of focused work
Set a timer. When it goes off, you can stop.
Most of the time, starting is the hardest part.
7) Let today be imperfect
You dont need a perfect day to have a meaningful day.
You can:
· be tired and still be brave
· be messy and still be worthy
· be learning and still be enough
If all you do today is keep goingthat counts.
A gentle little checklist for today
If you want something super simple, heres your Make Today Lighter checklist:
· Drink water
· Eat something
· Step outside (even 60 seconds)
· Do one next right thing
· Say one kind thing to yourself
Thats it.
Final encouragement
If nobody has told you today, let me be the one:
I'm proud of you.
You're still here. You're still trying. You're still showing up.
And that means there is hope and there is more good ahead.
